In an impressive display of speed, skill, and determination, the African Rally Championship Round 5, known as the Mountain Gorilla Rally, took place in Kigali, Rwanda from September 22nd to 24th. This thrilling event featured some of Africa’s most talented rally drivers competing for glory.
The rally had two categories: the African Rally Championship (ARC) and the National Rally Championship. The ARC had 7 formidable cars, while the National Rally Championship featured an impressive lineup of 23 cars, with participants from Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.
The competition began with a grand flag-off ceremony at the Kigali Convention Center, attended by the Rwanda Sports Minister. It then moved on to super special stages and qualifying rounds, where drivers showcased their exceptional skills.
The rally’s main action unfolded on challenging stages like Gako, Gasenyi, Kamabuye, Nemba, and Ruhuha, where drivers battled fiercely for crucial points. The demanding terrain tested their precision, courage, and teamwork.
In the end, Karan Patel, guided by Tauseef Khan, emerged as the victor, followed by Jas Mangat and Escatefigue Jules in second place, and Hamza Anwar and Din Adnan in third.
The Mountain Gorilla Rally has left the African Rally Championship wide open, with Yassir Nasser leading with 93 points, closely followed by Karan Racing Team with 90 points and Pilipili Racing Team with 87 points. The championship is still up for grabs with two events remaining in Zambia and Tanzania.
In the African Junior Championship, Prince Nyerere leads with 54 points, followed by Hamza Anwar and Rio Smith with 30 points each. The battle for this title remains intense.
In the ARC 2 championship, Jas Mangat leads with 84 points, followed by Innocent Bwamiki with 66 points and Prince Nyerere with 45 points. Hamza and Rio are tied with 30 points, setting the stage for an intense contest in upcoming events.
