The grand finale of the African Rally Championship (ARC) unfolded over the weekend from November 10-12 in Tanzania, marking the conclusion of a season bursting with thrills and unforgettable moments. The air crackled with anticipation as competitors and fans eagerly awaited the crowning of the 2023 African Rally Champion at the Asas Rally of Tanzania.
The event officially kicked off on Saturday, November 11, spanning a challenging competitive distance of 183.36km across twelve stages. After a gripping battle on the stages, representing Uganda, Jas Mangat and navigator Jules Escatefigue in their Hyundai i20 R5 emerged victorious. Karan Patel and Tauseef Khan, navigating in their Ford Fiesta R5, secured second place, while Hamza Anwar and Adnan Din in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X clinched third.
With their stellar performance, Karan Patel and Tauseef Khan became the African Rally Championship winners for the 2023 season, while Hamza Anwar and Adnan Din claimed the Junior African Rally Championship title.
Other crews participating in the African Rally Championship included Prince Nyerere, skillfully guided by Shameer Yusuf, and Gurpal Sandhu, alongside navigator Dave Sihoka. Both piloted Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Xs, contributing to the thrill of the competition.
At the National level, ten crews battled for supremacy in the Tanzania National Rally Championship. The likes of Manveer Birdi and Manmeet Birdi, Ahmed Huwel and Rahim Suleiman, Randeep Singh and Zubayr Piredina, Charles Bicco and David Matete, Kelvin Taylor and Karim Munisi, Vishal Patel and Rumeet Nanji, Bob Taylor and Monica Lyimo, Hamid Mbatta and Mohamed Kimenya, Sultan Chana and Modhar Hussein, Isaack Taylor and Said Hamisi brought their A-game to the rally.
The top spot was claimed by Randeep Birdi, expertly navigated by Zubayr Piredina, while second place was secured by Gurpal Sandhu, guided by David Sihoka, and third place went to Manveer Birdi, navigating alongside Manmeet Birdi.
After an intense battle, a skilled Tanzanian driver, guided by the Ugandan Joseph Kamya, emerged victorious with a flawless performance, clinching the Tanzania National Rally Championship title for the 2023 season with maximum points.
